summer and sweets

summer is almost here, i can feel it. this weekend was brilliant; ed and i walked around smith, gertrude and brunswick streets, ate at a lovely vegetarian restaurant and met up with p and c for a coffee.

sunday we went to the 'queen victoria markets' for supplies; i made a delicious prawn pasta dish given to me by f over the phone on saturday (all the way from london) and f....it turned out brilliantly! thank you.

tomorrow is the 'melbourne cup' (australia's most famous horse race), i found a hat that was exactly what i wanted and for only $7! bought some ribbon, buttons, feathers etc and have transformed it into a very cute, chic addition to my outfit. i will hopefully be able to get some digital images of it tomorrow and post them on the site asap.

this morning i popped by coles to purchase some sweets for tonight's halloween vistors. we live in an area that has a lot of families and so i'm expecting a few visitors knocking on our door. i picked up a large bag of caramello koala's and freddo frogs.

...and if there are no vistors ed and i will finish them off mmmmm caramello koala's my favourite.

f it was great to talk to you on saturday (^U^)

anne&richard premier

last night was the premier of christine's short film 'anne&richard' a brilliant 15 minute film based on 2 characters from shakespear's 'richard III'.

it screened at a lovely little screening house in fitzroy called 'erwin rado theatre'.

a lot of people turned out to see christine's (rogers) 4th and last short film before she ventures into feature films.

produced by clifford hayes (the editor of 'mad max') this tortured tale of love and deception won me over with it's brilliant acting, skillfull cinematography and art direction not to mention the unusual clash of shakespearian and contemporary language. i was so pleased to be asked to produce a logo for the film (see image) and even more thrilled that christine added my name to the credits.

a film she should really be proud of; i hope the various festivals around the world can appreciate it's substance.

currently listening to...

LOUIS XIV 'the best little secrets are kept'

don't know about the cover art work though, a bit 80's and uninventive; putting a naked woman on the cover just isn't clever.

travel plans

when ed and i get back to london we are going to do a lot more travelling. we did quite a bit but i think we should take advantage of europe right there on our doorstep and of course i want to go to iceland...that would be brilliant.

fermentation

meeting up with p tonight to discuss an illustration for a zine. i've completed the image but as the subject matter is boys i'm not completely comfortable with it. i find it so much easier to draw women.

the bar where we are meeting is an odd place. the last time i was there the guy behind the bar didn't even know what cider was? my brother had to say 'you know...fermented apples'....nope still no
acknowledgement. maybe i'll order a glass of wine....you know fermented grapes!

big ned

on sunday we went for a drive...a far too long drive into the countryside of victoria. we were stuck in the back of a car for a total of 7 hours. the only thing that saved us was that we saw the 'big ned kelly'.
his magnificence was worth the tiring journey, thank you ned for holding back those troupers and giving us the monument we saw along a side freeway in the middle of nowhere in coutry victoria..your life wasn't in vain.

what a lovely weekend

the weekend just gone was brilliant, not only did we go to a wonderful wedding in the countryside of queensland but we managed to catch up with friends in brisbane. our time in queensland has however solidified my opinion that it is just TOO HOT! i could not live in that climate.
j thank you so much for letting us stay at your flat, arriving at 12 midnight on the thursday night and leaving at 4 in the morning on monday, you really are a true friend.

yesterday was ed's birthday, i thought it might be a little hard for him being away from the familiar faces of our london friends but after a nice lunch date with me then drinks and dinner with a new group of friends; friends we have made since living in melbourne it was such a brilliant day and one that makes us really appreciate melbourne and the people we have met. MELBOURNE........WE WILL BE BACK!
