it was pretty good

hell's kitchen....well it came and it went in 4 hours, but i think it went well; everyone seemed to like them and i was so pleased that people came out on a tuesday night for my little exhibition. thank you to paul, kath, roger, christine, way keat, ben, sarah, finley, sussie, liz, drue and of course ed, i had a really good time and by gosh those jam donut shots were good. thank you once again for making my first showing so much fun, now for some photos of the big night:
'i'll give it to you for $250 cause i can't afford the shipping back to london...pleeease'

after those jam donut shooters BAM!

a lot later at the train station feeling a little unwell after those jam donut shooters.

I SOLD 2 OUT OF THE 4!!! i am glad they are going to a good home.

it's tonight

tonight is my exhibition opening, and when i say exhibition i say it with a slight pang of phoniness. Does 4 illustrations make an 'exhibition'?

i hope people are kind but not kind despite not liking them. but i guess there really isn't anything not to like about them.

still i have bought a nice top to wear, a top i have been desperate to wear all weekend.

will let you know how it goes tomorrow, maybe with some photos.

new gocco print

i did this 3 colour gocco print a little while ago, it was the first of my experiments with this little machine. this is a photo as i don't have a scanner (a little blury).
it came out ok, but i think i'm getting the hang of its limits.

MY EXHIBITION

I printed up the flyers for my exhibition. unfortunately i don't have access to a scanner so here is a photograph of the flyer.

and last night i also printed up some business cards, these i am very pleased with, once again only a photo and not a scanned image.

and for a laugh...look at one of our carrots we pulled out on the weekend! next time we will remember to sive the soil before planting them.

my exhibition!

i have finally arranged a small exhibition of 4 illustrations i have been working on over the past few months to develop into a childrens book.
i will post the flyer on my blog shortly (yet to print them up on my print gocco) however here are the details:

A LITTLE ADVENTURE
an exhibition of illustrations by claire murphy
WHERE: Hell's Kitchen
20a Centre Place, Melbourne (off Flinders Lane)
WHEN: Opening night 29th November 2005
(Duration one month)
TIME: 7.00-9.00pm

i am very nervous about the images being shown even though i am pleased with them. and eventhough it is a very small exhibition i am very aprehensive.

i love Hell's Kitchen; this bar/cafe/restaurant, is fitted out in retro furniture and wallpaper but has such a nice vibe that you instantly feel at ease and away from the hustle and bustle of the lanes while still hearing the noise of pedestrian traffic below. It is such a cool place to show my work.

I am going to print up the flyers tonight so hopefully if they turn out well i'll post a copy tomorrow.

scissor happy

hairdressers never fail to baffle me. why do they insist of taking too much hair off of your head? you would think they wouldn't take too much off so you would have to visit more regularly.

i had my hair cut yesterday, thought it was getting too 'boofy' so wanted the weight cut out. when the hairdresser said 'your hair is going to look s-o-o-o funky when i am finished!' i should have known it was going to be hacked to pieces.

to be fair it doesn't look too bad now after i washed it and flattened the 'old lady' look out. i was almost in tears by the end as i discovered she had cut a huge chunk out of my fringe (that i had been growing for months), when i showed my dismay at her 'cutting a huge chunk out of my fringe she said 'it was textured, and when it had 'product' in it, it would look fine' i was visibley upset and i must say almost in tears when she had finished her massacre.

i will never again let a hairdresser touch my fringe and what exactly does TEXTURED mean?

no photo as i have to wait for my hair to grow a little before it is shown to the world.

listening to 'sarah blasko' - overture & the underscore (australian singer/songwriter). i loved the 2 singles from this album, so far the rest of the album is taking a while to get into but slowly it is winning me over.

iron chief/chef/comp/chomp

our last iron chief was a fun filled chicken extravaganza! yes two dishes with 'chicken' but they were both tastey. when the grand final scores were collated i came 4th (bit dissapointed actually and i never won a round, i thought i was a pretty good cook but this competition has really brought out the best in everyones abilities) THE GRAND FINAL SCORES: naomi 1st, hayden 2nd, ed 3rd, myself 4th, roger 5th, kath 6th, paul 7th, drue 8th, pip 9th. iron chief was a lot of fun and the birth of rainbow bruce as mascot would have to be a highlight oh! as well as the fantastic food that was created.

a local competition for local people

a local free press music mag is running a competition to illustrate one of the many artists that are performing at 'the big day out' music festival. the winner gets their image on the front of the magazine, 2 tickets to the concert and 30 cd's; now i know i won't be in the country to accept these lovely gifts but i thought why not try to get on the front of this well distributed magazine and my brother can go to the festival for free! here is my entry; sewn freestyle on the sewing machine with paper and denim (not quite a clear photo)...i give you IGGY POP!

and as promised here is a picture of minnie for ange who i know misses her kittens so much:

red wine/brown hair

i don't know why but yesterday i really fancied a glass of red wine so after work and swimming i popped into our local 'clear skin' and purchased a reasonably priced bottle of red, buying this particular bottle was the fact it described the taste as: 'has chocolatey undertones'....why does this always suck me in, it was nice but no chocolatey undertones were tasted. i remember a white wine i bought a few months ago said 'tastes of anzac biscutes' i am always so disappointed.

i'm brunette ... GET OVER IT!

the red hair didn't last long, i kept catching glimpses of myself; reflections in windows and shop mirrors, the red hair just wasn't me so yesterday i bought a dark brown dye and now i have chocolatey brown hair, i feel like myself again.

here is the 3rd in the series of illustrations:
there is a type of story of which i would like ed to write so i could produce something to show publishers but at the moment it is a very simple story of a girl finding her way through a forest, coming across different animals. a little flimsy i know but i need some input as to an actual plot, story plan, conclusion.

a wet muggy day

image 2 of my recent series, this is actually my favourite (the photo looses some of the brightness of the colours).

what i am listening to at the moment: francoise hardy 'les chansons d'amour', i have always wanted to buy a francoise hardy cd but just never got around to it....and what did ed come home with last night.....but this compilation of her songs. in a similar vein as jane birkin but not as breathy and lets face it francoise hardy can hold a note (^U^)
